New Delicious Poster

Hi guys. This week's post is a contribution from MMM--a poster he designed using images from the Delicious CD. Thanks M! This poster shows an overview of the whole sequence of art. Although it's not a comic, it did involve a story line. To me, a story makes the art a lot more sensual. I'm not sure why this is; maybe I just like sequential art so much that it colors my view of everything.

Having worked as long as I have, I can readily attest to Susan's love of sequential work. Whenever I do a submission with Susan, I have a story or at least a scenario in mind. It makes describing what I want a lot easier.

As for increased sensuality, I've got my own explanation for that. When there is a story, it lends two things. First, is action. The character is doing something. Action is always more interesting than a mere pose.

Second, is that it invests the character with personality. When people talk about prospective mates, they don't just talk about their bodies (unless they are really shallow). They also talk about personality. Fleshing out the character even a little can go a long way.

Let's apply my theory to the Delicious poster. A very sensual cat girl finds an isolated spot in the woods. She strips down, bathes and then frolicks. She shows a very animalistic side when she scratches on the tree. The cat girl seems very comfortable naked. I'm going to assume that she is, and she only wears clothes as a concession to more modest company.

AJ, something I've always liked about doing art with you is your ability to analyze the work. I have done pieces for a lot of folks over time; the ones I have enjoyed most have been with people who have made an effort to see the job from my point of view. You not only make this effort, you succeed in understanding what I do so well that, often, you point out things I didn't catch myself. In this way I've learned a lot by working with you and had a lot of fun.

I agree with your analysis of the Delicious poster. Showing personality through action is the heart of seqential work. Although posed work can be very nice, story telling is better when trying to depict a sensual scene.
